Time Heals All Wounds

A friend asked me how my art was going.  I went into detail about "this festival, that retailer, this art walk, that contest" and he said, "how about your ART, you know...your paintings?"

Huh....good point.  What about my art?

I decided in the midst of the craziness of being my Gramma's caretaker, I need to remember my passion, where my happiness comes from.  Soo....I went out to the shop and built a canvas, pulled out the textiles and sketchbook, sketched up an idea that's been turning around in my head...and found myself smiling.  I almost love the process of art more than the finished product.  I was that way in my design classes as well, I would take photos and sketches through the process and include those in my final presentations.  I just love how people think and why they make the choices they do.  I always hope people can see beneath the paint...to see the whole piece of art.

This piece is going to be about how time heals all wounds.

Art in Motion

Oh Yay!  One of my paintings was selected for Grants Pass's Art in Motion, which means it will be on the side of a bus from July 30 to Nov 30.  This painting is called "Sun and Tree" and was my original logo.

Making time to paint lately, it helps me stay sane...at least at the level of sanily/insanity I'm at already.   G and I drove up Hwy 62 this afternoon and stopped at about 5-6 pet stores/groomers.  Really good response to my pet jewelry and tags.  One new client and the rest are all interested, just need to follow up with the management.  Course, the first step is getting them in the stores, the 2nd is getting clients to purchase them.

It's one am, I should probably go to sleep.  Trying to go through the notes on my thoughts throughout the day and piece together an idea for these paintings.  I want to incorporate images that appeal to me and try to explain why.  I can't figure out how to do it without incorporating words, but then I realized a while ago, that my poetry is much more personal than my paintings.  I think there are reasons I paint what I do and why it appeals to me, but I don't think it shows in my work.  Is it too simple to include words?  Am I overdoing it starting with the order that I crave, including thoughts in text and adding the visual feeling.  I don't know.  It's something new.  I'll give it a shot and see how it turns out.

Dropped off displays and pet tags/jewelry at Rogue River and Grants Pass retail stores today.  I also took time to photograph the Jacksonville Courthouse in the morning light and then again in late afternoon.  I'm trying to get shots for the promotional material for Jville Celebrates the Arts.

Elvis is in the House

The Rogue Gallery Elvis Exhibit starts tonight.  Elvis is arriving at 3:30 and the reception starts at 4:30.  This is the painting I've entered.  Rogue Gallery is also carrying necklaces I made with the image.

These are the Elvis necklaces, pre bail and neck chain.  I also decided to make a paperweight and list it on etsy.

Valentines Day Production Continues

I find process almost more interesting than the finished product.  Almost.

Let the fun continue.  At least while I'm producing, my mind is free to wander.  I have paintings swirling around in my mind.  Oooh, sketchbook.  The way my mind has been working live a sieve lately, probably a good idea to jot them down.

Progress

It's coming along.

One of the galleries I worked with asked me to do some "word art".  I guess people ask for signs or art that have sayings and words.  I agreed to "think about it".  My plan has never been to do crafts or make the same thing over and over.  On the other hand, I need to figure out how to make a living in this economy.  So, I'm working on a few ideas and processing it.  Hmm...

Art Show - Gallery 360

I recently submitted applications to a couple of gallery shows. I just heard back from the first one, Gallery 360 in Vancouver, WA and one of my pieces was accepted. The show will run March 30 through April 30 with the opening reception April 1st from 5-9.

Shipping and Handling

Yep, that's the painting that just sold strapped to the Vespa. You have to appreciate that even the delivery is unique. ;) And yes, it did arrive at UPS safely.

Smaller Squares

I'm playing with the idea of using smaller mdf squares with larger spaces between. I think it has possibilities. I could do texture on the canvas and then color on the small squares. Hmm....my mind spins..

Issaquah Farmer's Market

Today was my third saturday at the Issaquah Farmer's Market. I'm really enjoying it, but still figuring out how to best display my work. I enjoy hearing feedback on my art and seeing what people respond to. It was rainy-cold today though, I can't wait for the sunshine!

Aurora Sold

Today I sold my largest painting. It was the first time I've dealt with packing and shipping something so big. I love the shot of the painting in the beat-up pickup, quite the contrast. I hope the woman who purchased it will upload a photo of it in her space. I love to see my artwork hanging in other peoples homes.

Banner

I've been working on a new banner for my etsy site. I'm trying to use Gimp to create the banner. For some reason, it's fuzzy. Hmm... I will work on it more tomorrow. I'm also going to a workshop tomorrow given by the top etsy seller. I'm excited, it should a great learning experience.

DIMINUTION

Today I reposted Diminution, which is a painting a finished about a year ago to my etsy site. I also attempted to print note cards on my printer at home. Hmm....not looking great yet.

Tonight I'm working on the purple texture painting as well as a new one that is raw umber and yellow ochre.

Purple Texture Painting

I started a new painting today. It's the same concept with the geometric squares I've been using lately. I put tissue paper down first. I really like the texture that gives the paintings. Then I used a different color combination than I've used before. Dioxazine purple with payne's gray, mars black and titanium white. I love it. It would look great in my room!

Clocks

I started making a clock today for my living room and realized this might be a good product to create and sell on my etsy site. I like the idea of incorporating art and craft into one item. I also like to utilize materials that might otherwise end up in a dumpster. I'm going to try making some with a combination of newspaper, magazines and acrylic paint.

Tree Painting is Finished

I did not finish the goals I set for myself today, so I am planning to work on them again tomorrow. However, I did finish the yellow ochre and dark umber tree painting I have been working on. I took my first photos with the new tripod. It's definitely improved the quality, but I think it will help photograph even better during daylight hours, so am going to also work on photographing the texture series tomorrow.

Rendering Style

Today I worked on a painting of a tree. I want the painting to have a morose, lonely feel. I have many branches to go. I think the looser I get with paint strokes, such as the background, the more I like it.

I took a color rendering class last quarter. I played around with one of my one-point perspectives. The first image is done with photographs of my paintings. It's not hard-lined, but I took more time making the lines straight, etc. The last two, I drafted and rendered in about 5 mins. I realized that I liked the looser ones much better than the more precise-time consuming rendering. I think I've found my style.
